# 255 Weekend outing: Blaise Castle Estate

With only 2 weeks to go before school starts, this past Saturday and Sunday saw us busy shopping for A. New school uniform, shoes, a new bag to meet the school requirements, other school related bits and pieces (and there are still one or 2 items that need to be bought before September 3rd) and a new mattress which we got from IKEA yesterday. While there we enjoyed a slice of cake and a hot drink in the cafeteria before heading to the Blaise Castle Estate to burn off the calories in the cake :-)

The Blaise Castle Estate is a huge park in Bristol and well worth a visit. Besides the walks we enjoyed the House Museum and the folly which happened to be open yesterday thanks to a group of volunteers.

The House Museum

The folly

The museum houses a very interesting collection of objects found in the home such as Victorian toilets and baths, kitchen equipment, old toys and dolls, some period costumes, etc.

During primary school I actually sat on a desk very much like these.

Vacuum cleaners

Toilet bowl

Laundry equipment
The folly is the one featured in Jane Austen's novel Northanger Abbey and is representative of the gothic architecture built in Bristol at the time.
